Sometimes we take for granted just how much the United Kingdom has to offer and a prime example of that is Snowdonia, one of the UK’s most scenic areas and an ideal motorcycle tour.

Situated in northwest Wales, Snowdonia or Eryri, was the country’s first ever national park and contains its 15 highest mountains, most notably the 1,085 metre tall Mount Snowdon. Although the area measures 823 square miles, the motorcycle tour normally consists of a distance somewhere between 200 and 350 miles.

Travelling through the counties of Gwynedd and Conwy, the route features the highest roads Wales has to offer and showcases wall-to-wall scenery with everything from the towering mountains and vast valleys to historical castles and villages on show.

A Snowdonia tour is possible to complete in a day if you are purely just riding and while that may seem like a long journey to complete in one day, you may be too engrossed in the views to notice. However, it would be recommended to spend a few days here for the full experience.

Spring is said to be the best time to embark upon a motorbike trip in Snowdonia as the national park is arguably at its most picturesque in spring thanks to the vibrant bloom of the flowers and the bustling wildlife. It is also considered prime time for hiking, visiting attractions and sightseeing due to the favourable weather and reduced footfall.

Summer is the busiest time of the year for the area, inundated with tourists, and with that comes saturated traffic on what are already narrow roads. Hiking

From Wales' entire collection of mountains to rolling hills and valleys, Snowdonia national park is rich in hiking locations. Why not pull those boots on and experience nature at its very best? You could even tackle Mount Snowdon, one of the UK's three tallest peaks.

Snowdon Mountain Railway

For those who want to experience Mount Snowdon in all her majesty but do not fancy the entirety of the challenging trek, there is another option. The Snowdon Mountain Railway runs daily from March to October and travels 3/4 of the way to the summit during that time.

Visit Portmeirion

Ever wondered how a typical Italian village would look if it was transported to North Wales? No, neither have I, but Portmeirion is Snowdonia's very own slice of Italy and a completely unique sight. 

Zip-lining

There is no need to worry, we have not forgot about the adrenaline chasers. Zip World, located just outside the town of Bethesda, is home to the world's fastest zip-line which has been appropriately named 'Velocity' and is found suspended over the old Penrhyn slate quarry. Talk about adrenaline-inducing!

Visit Aber Falls

Another one for the nature lovers! Aber Falls is a 120 feet waterfall plunging from a sill of igneous rock to create a natural plunge pool before flowing off into a stream. It is perfectly acceptable to bathe in the plunge pool and many people do, but beware of the water's temperature even at the height of summer.

Mountain Biking

Although Snowdonia is known for its hiking routes, another way to experience it is on a mountain bike. The National Park is home to winding forest trails, stunning scenic roads and recreational routes for cyclists.

How To Prepare For A Snowdonia Trip

Naturally, it is important to pack with the weather in mind when setting off to Snowdonia, you never know what the Great British weather has in store and it is better to prepare for the worst than it is to not prepare at all.

Lockable motorcycle luggage that has the capacity to hold two helmets would not go amiss, especially when stopping off at busy locations, while it never hurts to have waterproof luggage cases. Due to the short nature of this trip, a lot less gear and cargo storage space is required, however, you may want to account for anything you pick up along the way.

Those of us that have not previously undertaken a motorcycle tour to the Lake District before may well be planning one now, they might even be packing as we speak.

The only thing to keep in mind in advance of such a trip is adequate preparation. Plan a route, pack with the weather in mind and allow for enough time to truly experience the Lakes at their very best.
